Recap: Vanderbilt vs. Missouri

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - James Franklin threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns as the Missouri Tigers took down the Vanderbilt Commodores, 51-28, in a SEC battle at Vanderbilt Stadium.

Franklin completed 19-of-28 pass attempts and also rushed for 63 yards for Missouri (5-0, 1-0 SEC). L'Damian Washington had three catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns while Marcus Lucas (six receptions, 60 yards) also brought in a touchdown pass. Henry Josey and Marcus Murphy each rushed for 69 yards, with Josey also scored a pair of touchdowns.

Austyn Carta-Samuels threw for 338 yards and two scores on 29-of-41 passing for Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3). Jordan Mathews had seven receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown while Jonathan Krause brought in five passes for 81 yards and a score.

The first quarter was all Tigers as they would post 20 points in the period. First Washington scored on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Franklin early in the period.

On their next drive the Tigers got a 44-yard field goal from Andrew Baggett.

Less than a minute later the Tigers scored once again when Eric Waters brought in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Franklin. The touchdown was set up by an interception by Kentrell Brothers.

The final score of the quarter came when Baggett connected on his second field goal of the night, a 29-yard effort.

Vanderbilt finally put an end to the Tigers' scoring streak, with a touchdown of its own early in the second quarter, when Wesley Tate ran into the end zone from two yards out.

Tate's score did nothing to derail the Tigers, who took a 27-7 lead on their next drive when Josey scored on a five-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers would strike once more before halftime with a 41-yard field goal from Baggett.

Vanderbilt struck first in the second half when Matthews caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Carta-Samuels.

The Tigers responded with a one-yard touchdown run from Josey on their next possession.

The points kept coming in the quarter as the Commodores got a two-yard touchdown run from Carta-Samuels when they next had the ball. followed by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Franklin to Lucas on the Tigers' next possession.

Each team traded scoreless possessions before the Commodores got a 35-yard touchdown pass from Carta-Samuels to Krause early in the fourth quarter.

Vanderbilt then tried an onside kick attempt but was unable to recover. On the very next play Franklin threw another touchdown pass to Washington, this time from 42 yards out.

Missouri finished with 523 yards of total offense while converting on just 4- of-11 third downs. Vanderbilt had 468 yards of total offense and scored on both its trips to the red zone.
