Recap: Missouri vs. Toledo

Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - James Franklin accounted for 289 yards of offense as the Missouri Tigers pulled away late to take down the Toledo Rockets, 38-23, in a non-conference bout at Faurot Field.

Franklin completed 16-of-25 passes for 212 yards with a touchdown and an interception while also rushing for a team-high 77 yards for Missouri (2-0), which has won its first two games for the first time since 2010. L'Damian Washington caught five passes for 78 yards, while Dorial Green-Beckham (five receptions, 51 yards) was on the receiving end of Franklin's scoring strike. Henry Josey had just 26 yards on nine carries but converted two short touchdowns.

For Toledo (0-2), Terrance Owens was 26-of-41 for 262 yards with a touchdown, but he also threw three interceptions. David Fluellen rushed for 111 yards and also reeled in a career-high 10 receptions for 100 yards. Alonzo Russell (seven receptions, 101 yards, TD) was also an active receiver for the Rockets.

Missouri got the scoring started early in the first quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Andrew Baggett. Toledo matched it a few minutes later with a 24-yarder off the foot of Jeremiah Detmer.

The Tigers struck with the first touchdown of the contest at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter, as Josey finished off an eight-play, 74-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge.

The Rockets drove deep into Missouri territory a couple of times in the second quarter but had to settle for two more Detmer field goals (46, 41).

With under two minutes left in the first half, Franklin hooked up with Green- Beckham for a nine-yard touchdown to go up 17-9 heading into halftime.

With Toledo driving early in the third quarter, Markus Golden picked off an Owens pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown, as the Tigers extended their lead to 24-9.

The Rockets rebounded less than two minutes later when Owens rushed in a four- yard score.

Toledo continued the comeback trail at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter when Owens connected with Russell on a 41-yard touchdown to bring the Rockets' deficit to just one, 24-23.

Missouri gained some breathing room late in the third quarter when Josey converted another one-yard touchdown.

The Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter following an eight-yard touchdown rush by Marcus Murphy.

Missouri was very effective on third down, going 9-of-15. Toledo converted just 4-of-11 attempts on third down.
