Evanston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Northwestern announced on Tuesday that running back Venric Mark has been granted a fifth year of eligibility after his medical hardship waiver was approved by the Big Ten Conference.

Mark, who played in just three games in 2013, left in the first quarter against Wisconsin on Oct. 12 with a fractured left ankle that caused him to miss the rest of the season.

In 2012, Mark was named a first-team All American as a punt returner, and his 1,366 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns earned him second-team All-Big Ten honors.

He ranks fourth on Northwestern's all-purpose yards list with 4,271 yards, exactly 1,000 yards shy of the school's career leader, Damien Anderson (5,271, 1998-2001).
