Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Dino Babers didn't wait long to take the next step up the coaching ladder.

On the same day he departed Eastern Illinois, the 52-year-old landed in Bowling Green.

He'll take over for Dave Clawson, who bolted for the top job at Wake Forest on Dec. 10.

"We are so proud to have Dino and his family join Bowling Green State University," director of athletics D. Christopher Kingston said. "Dino brings with him an incredible resume of successful experiences that absolutely fit the Falcon football program. He is a proven winner who is in the business of developing young men who desire success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. His ability to maximize talent through skill development is unmatched."

Babers arrives in Ohio after a two-year stint with the EIU Panthers, including a 12-2 record this past season and a berth in the FCS playoffs. Prior to that, the Hawaii product spent four seasons as an assistant under Art Briles at Baylor.

"I am honored and excited to join the Falcon family," Babers said. "I want to thank President Mazey, Chris Kingston, and Lesley Irvine for the opportunity to take over the Bowling Green program. My family and I can't wait to get to Bowling Green and become Falcons. I want to thank the Eastern Illinois players and fans for their support the last two years, especially President Perry and (athletics director) Barbara Burke."

Bowling Green, which toppled Northern Illinois to take the Mid-American Conference championship, faces Pitt on Dec. 26 in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
