Recap: Towson vs. William & Mary

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Thornton led all scorers with 21 points, as the William & Mary Tribe outlasted the Towson Tigers, 75-71, in the semifinal round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament at Baltimore Arena.

Brandon Britt shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range en route to 16 points for third- seeded William & Mary (20-11), which will play Delaware in the championship game on Monday. Kyle Gaillard and Tim Rusthoven scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

For second-seeded Towson (23-10), Jerrell Benimon netted 18 points, Mike Burwell followed closely behind with 17 and Rafriel Guthrie poured in 13.

A tightly-contested first half ended in a 36-36 tie. Although William & Mary outshot Towson from the field, 50 percent to 40 percent, the Tigers attempted six more field goals and shot 8-of-12 at the line.

The Tribe never led by double digits in the second half, but they never trailed either. The Tigers got to within one point on a few occasions, including with 2:40 left on a Timajh Parker-Rivera free throw, but they would score just one more point down the stretch. William & Mary put the game on ice with a 2-of-2 trip to the stripe by Thornton with four seconds to go.

While both teams shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, William and Mary made 11 3-pointers to Towson's seven.
