Recap: Va Military vs. Air Force

Lexington, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - D.J. Covington tallied 20 points and seven rebounds to lift the VMI Keydets to a 71-63 win over the Air Force Falcons in the title game of the All-Military Classic at Cameron Hall.

Q.J. Peterson added 19 points for VMI (2-0), which also received 16 points courtesy of Rodney Glasgow. Jordan Weethee grabbed 11 rebounds for the Keydets as they secured the championship of the All-Military Classic on their home floor.

The Falcons (1-1) fell despite 25 points and nine rebounds by Marek Olesinki. Tre Coggins and Yon Max added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Air Force had never previously lost in the All-Military Classic.

The Keydets took a 39-25 lead into halftime after shooting 41.2 percent from the floor and outscoring Air Force, 22-12, in the paint in the first half. The Falcons made just 2-of-7 attempts at the free-throw line before the intermission.

Air Force narrowed the deficit as it heated up to convert 48.1 percent of its field goal attempts and 10-of-12 at the charity stripe after halftime. VMI sank 40.7 percent of its field goal tries in the second half to hold off the visitors.

VMI enjoyed a 39-33 edge in the rebounding battle and committed only 12 turnovers. Air Force finished the game with 17 turnovers and went just 5- of-22 from beyond the arc.
