Recap: Oakland vs. Valparaiso

Rochester, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Duke Mondy paced Oakland with 24 points as the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Valparaiso Crusaders, 75-70, in Horizon League action at the O'rena.

Mondy connected on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and was a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range. Travis Bader added 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting for Oakland (6-11, 1-1 Horizon) as the team has won three of its last four contests.

LaVonte Dority netted 20 points, on 6-of-13 shooting, and dished out five assists for Valparaiso (9-8, 1-1). Alec Peters and Jordan Coleman each scored 12 points, while Lexus Williams and Keith Carter added 11 and 10, respectively. Valpo has lost three of its last four games.

Both teams shot at least 50 percent from the floor in the first half, with the Crusaders hitting 15-of-28 shots (53.6 percent) and Oakland connecting an even 50 percent on 13-of-26. Valpo took an 11-point lead into the half, 44-33.

The Golden Grizzlies shot just 39.3 percent in the second half, but hit 14 free-throw attempts to stage a 42-26 second-half comeback for the win. The Crusaders knocked down 45 percent of their field-goal attempts in the second half.

Oakland, which outscored the visitors at the free-throw line, 17-12, turned the ball over just six times on the evening.
