Recap: Ill-Chicago vs. Valparaiso
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - LaVonte Dority scored 33 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Valparaiso Crusaders cruised past the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 70-46, in Horizon League action at the UIC Pavilion.
Dority was the only player on his team to score double figures, connecting on 10-of-15 field goal attempts, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range for Valpo (14-10, 6-3 Horizon). Vashil Fernandez pulled down seven rebounds and blocked seven shots for the Crusaders, who have won five of their last six games.
Jake Wiegand, Marc Brown and Kelsey Barlow each netted eight points to pace UIC (5-18, 0-9). Wiegand added eight rebounds, and Barlow tallied five assists in the loss. The Flames have lost 12 consecutive games dating back to Dec. 20.
Valpo hit 40.7 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, and took a 36-23 lead into the locker room. UIC connected on just 29.6 percent of its shots in the frame.
The Crusaders pumped up their shooting in the second period, netting 52.4 percent from the floor to the Flames' 24.1 percent. Valpo outscored UIC 34-23 in the half.
Valpo had the edge from 3-point range, 10-3, and in points in the paint, 22-10. The Flames shot a dismal 26.8 percent from the floor in the game.Game Notes
