Recap: Niagara vs. Marist

Niagara University, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Antoine Mason scored 22 points as the Niagara Purple Eagles defeated the Marist Red Foxes, 80-74, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Gallagher Center.

Marvin Jordan netted 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting for Niagara (6-15, 3-7 MAAC), and Marcus Ware chipped in 12 points, 10 of which came at the free- throw line. The win snaps a two-game Purple Eagles losing streak.

Chavaughn Lewis scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting for Marist (6-13, 3-6), adding eight rebounds in the loss. Khallid Hart contributed 12 points, Jay Bowie scored 11 and Adam Kemp tallied 10 for the Red Foxes, who have lost four of their last five.

Niagara came out firing in the first half, connecting on 50 percent of its shots. The teams went into the locker rooms deadlocked at 34-34, however, after Marist connected on 51.7 percent of its shots from the floor.

The Purple Eagles shot 45.8 percent in the second period, including 5-of-7 from 3-point distance. The Red Foxes increased their shooting percentage to 54.2 percent in the second half, but were outscored by Niagara from the free- throw line in the frame, 19-11.

Niagara had the edge in the game from the charity stripe, 23-11, and in fast break points, 14-10.
