Recap: Niagara vs. Iona

Niagara, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - A.J. English sank a 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining to lift the Iona Gaels to a 90-89 victory over the Niagara Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference thriller at the Gallagher Center.

David Laury scored a game-high 28 points and Sean Armand added 22 for Iona (14-8, 11-2 MAAC), which has won five straight. Also in double figures for the Gaels were Isaiah Williams (18 points) and English (15).

Ramone Snowden (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Rayvon Harris (14 points, 12 rebounds) each registered double-doubles for Niagara (6-18, 3-10), which has lost five of its last six. Wesley Myers added 16 points, Antoine Mason finished with 13 and Tahjere McCall chipped in 12.

Iona knocked down 53.9 percent of their shots from the field, including 8- of-16 from beyond the arc in the first half. However, the Gaels only led 35-31 at the break as Niagara made up for a 39 percent shooting effort by outscoring their opposition 14-0 in second chance points.

The Gaels cooled to 48.1 percent shooting in the second half, but they did sink another six 3-pointers, including English's game-winner. The Purple Eagles had an 89-82 lead with just over two minutes to play, but the Gaels prevailed by ending the game on an 8-0 run.

Niagara lost despite holding a 22-0 edge in second chance points and a 56-26 advantage on points in the paint.
