Recap: Fairfield vs. Rider

Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Daniel Stewart finished with 20 points and seven rebounds as the Rider Broncs downed the Fairfield Stags, 71-62, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup at Webster Bank Arena.

Jimmie Taylor chipped in 19 points to help the Broncs (13-12, 9-7 MAAC) snap a three-game losing streak. Kahlil Thomas added 12 points and blocked three shots for the visitors.

Maurice Barrow led Fairfield (5-22, 2-14) with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Marcus Gilbert posted 20 points and eight rebounds, while Amadou Sidibe pulled down a game-high nine boards. K.J. Rose handed out five assists as the Stags were suffered their third consecutive setback.

Gilbert scored five points in a row to give the Stags a six-point lead with 1:15 remaining in the opening period, but Rider went into the intermission trailing, 31-28, after Taylor sank a 3-point field goal attempt just before the buzzer. Fairfield led by three points at the break despite connecting on only 2-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half.

Rider took control in the second stanza by making 53.6 percent of its field goal tries and converting 10-of-15 attempts at the charity stripe. The Stags were limited to 37 percent efficiency from the floor over the final 20 minutes of the contest.

The Broncs tallied 27 points off of Fairfield's 15 turnovers. Despite the loss, the Stags' reserves outscored Rider's bench, 34-9.
