Recap: Pacific vs. St Marys-CA

Stockton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Beau Levesque tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Saint Mary's Gaels past the Pacific Tigers, 88-80, in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Kerry Carter, Stephen Holt and James Walker III each scored 15 points for Saint Mary's (10-3, 1-0 WCC), while Brad Waldow added 14 points. Holt also dished out eight assists for the visitors.

For Pacific (9-3, 0-1), which has lost two of three, Andrew Bock paced all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-13 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line. Sama Taku poured in 17 points, Ross Rivera netted 10 and Tony Gill hauled in 12 rebounds.

In a hot-shooting first half, Saint Mary's drained 53.8 percent of its field goal attempts, while Pacific wasn't far behind at 51.9 percent. The Gaels ultimately took a 45-39 lead into intermission by making 8-of-15 from 3- point range.

The Tigers opened up the second half on a 5-0 run to get within one point of the lead, but the Gaels answered with a 12-2 surge of their own to take a 57-46 advantage with 12:56 remaining. Pacific got no closer than five the rest of the way.

Saint Mary's was outstanding from beyond the arc, shooting 13-of-26, while Pacific struggled at just 4-of-16.
