Recap: Portland vs. San Francisco

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Tollefsen finished with 22 points to lead the San Francisco Dons over the Portland Pilots in overtime, 87-81, in the West Coast Conference opener for both clubs at the Chiles Center.

Avry Holmes added 15 points for the Dons (8-5, 1-0 WCC), while Cole Dickerson finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Glover and Kruize Pinkins chipped in 11 points each for the visitors.

For the Pilots (8-5, 0-1) Kevin Bailey led all scorers with 24 points, while Bobby Sharp scored 13, Thomas Van Der Mars finished with 10 and Alex Wintering dished out 13 assists.

Portland shot well to begin the contest, knocking down 55.6 percent of its field goal tries in the first half, giving the Pilots a 35-27 lead at intermission. San Francisco was effective from the floor as well, making 50 percent of its shots from the field.

The teams traded leads for most of the second half. With the game tied at 66-66 and the shot clock about to expire, Bailey knocked down a 3-point shot to put the Pilots up 69-66 with just nine seconds to remaining in regulation. The Dons answered when Chris Adams' 3-pointer with under a second to play was good and sent the game to overtime.

In the extra session, Portland led 73-71 with 3:18 left before San Francisco used a 9-1 run to take control and pull out the road victory.

The Dons had a 40-22 rebounding advantage and outscored the Pilots in the paint, 46-28. Portland outscored San Francisco 30-15 from 3-point range.
