Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Karvel Anderson netted 16 points as the Robert Morris Colonials defeated the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, 65-56, in Northeast Conference play at the Wellness Center.
Stephan Hawkins chipped in 10 points for Robert Morris (13-11, 8-1 NEC). The Colonials connected on 40.4 percent of their shots in the game. Robert Morris has won eight of its last nine matchups.
E.J. Reed scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace LIU Brooklyn (7-15, 2-7). Troy Joseph contributed 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting in the loss. The Blackbirds have now dropped three straight contests.
Robert Morris shot a sub-par 33.3 percent from the floor in the first half, and went just 1-of-6 from 3-point range, but still took a 27-24 lead into the intermission. LIU Brooklyn connected on just 26.5 percent of its field goal tries in the frame.
The Colonials improved to 45.5 percent shooting in the second half, this time hitting 6-of-13 from 3-point distance. The Blackbirds also improved from the floor, hitting 39.3 percent of their shot attempts, and went 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Robert Morris had the edge in second chance points, 16-4, and in bench points, 16-12. LIU Brooklyn held a slight advantage in points in the paint, 28-22.Game Notes
