Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tommy Spagnolo registered a double-double consisting of 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Appalachian State Mountaineers took down the Samford Bulldogs, 74-68, in a Southern Conference battle at the Holmes Center.

Tab Hamilton added 18 points for the Mountaineers (8-16, 4-7 SoCon), followed by Ty Toney and Chris Burgess with 14 points apiece as the team won for the second time in the last three outings. Before fouling out, Michael Obacha contributed a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Bulldogs (11-16, 5-7) were paced by Isaiah Williams with 13 points, Tim Williams 12 and the duo of Raijon Kelly and Connor Miller 10 points apiece for a squad that bowed for the second time in three decisions.

Appalachian State shot a disappointing 9-of-27 from the floor in the first half, allowing the Bulldogs to move out to a six-point advantage late in the frame and carry a 34-30 edge into the break.

In the second half the Mountaineers turned it around with an astounding 71.4 percent effort from the field, compared to a solid 51.9 percent for the visitors, but at the same time ASU also outscored the Bulldogs at the free- throw line over the final 20 minutes, 12-6.

The hosts posted a 39-28 advantage on the glass and outscored Samford at the charity stripe, 21-10, although ASU did finish only 21-of-37 (.568) at the line on the day.

The contest was originally slated to begin at 7 p.m. but was moved to daylight hours for the safety of fans traveling to and from the Holmes Center following a winter storm.
