Recap: Appalachian St vs. Ga Southern
Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tab Hamilton knocked down 4-of-7 3-pointers and scored 17 points to pace five double-digit scorers for the Appalachian State Mountaineers, who claimed an 81-68 win over Georgia Southern in a Southern Conference bout at the Holmes Convocation Center.
Tommy Spagnolo recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to help the Mountaineers (5-13, 1-4 SoCon) end a five-game slide and notch their first conference victory. Chris Burgess chipped in with 15 points, Michael Obacha scored 14 and pulled down eight boards, and Ty Toney added 11 points off the bench in the win.
Brian Holmes led all scorers with 21 points for the Eagles (9-10, 1-3), while teammate Jelani Hewitt scored 19. That duo combined to shoot 10-of-18 from beyond the arc, although Hewitt committed seven of GSU's 16 turnovers for the game.
The Mountaineers were able to penetrate GSU's defense early on, as they held a 16-4 scoring edge inside the paint during the first half and took a 34-26 lead into the break.
Appalachian State put the game away with a 58.3-percent shooting effort from the floor in the second stanza, including 6-of-9 accuracy from 3-point range.
The Mountaineers held a 43-34 rebounding advantage for the game.Game Notes
