Recap: Western Mich vs. Eastern Mich

Kalamazoo, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Shayne Whittington registered a double- double with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Western Michigan Broncos captured a 75-67 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a Mid-American Conference battle at University Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Broncos (18-8, 11-3 MAC) were David Brown and Austin Richie with 20 and 10 points, respectively, while AJ Avery gave the squad a spark off the bench with eight points and eight rebounds as they extended their win streak to seven in a row.

The Eagles (15-12, 7-7), losers of back-to-back decisions, were led by Darell Combs with 21 points off the bench, followed by fellow reserve with 12 points before fouling out. The only starter in double figures for EMU was Mike Talley with 10 points.

Eastern Michigan shot a dismal 29.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including 3-of-9 behind the 3-point line, setting the team back by eight at the break, 34-26. The Broncos made good on just 34.8 percent from the field in the period, but they were 15-of-19 at the free-throw line.

In the second half WMU converted a total of only 10 field goals, but again saved itself with an impressive 19-of-25 effort at the charity stripe.

The Broncos turned the ball over 16 times on the day, but the biggest factor in the decision came at the free-throw line where they outscored the visitors by a 34-8 margin.
