Recap: South Dakota St vs. Montana
Brookings, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Kareem Jamar came up just two assists shy of a triple-double as he finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Montana Grizzlies to a 77-69 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Front Arena.
Keron DeShields added 12 points and five boards for Montana (1-1) as it picked up its first victory of the season. Eric Hutchison and Brandon Gfeller contributed 11 points apiece.
Jordan Dykstra paced SDSU (0-3) with 20 points to go along with nine boards. Brayden Carlson scored 17 points and Chad White netted 13 points. Cody Larson pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds as the setback ended the Jackrabbits' 30- game home winning streak, which was the longest among Division I programs.
Montana made 10 of its 14 two-point field goal attempts in the first period, but went into halftime trailing, 25-24, after it went just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc and 1-of-3 at the free-throw line. The Jackrabbits led at the break despite converting only 29 percent of their shots from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
SDSU heated up to hit on 59.3 percent of its field goal tries after the intermission. The Grizzles pulled away as they knocked down 68.2 percent of their shots from the field including 10-of-13 from 3-point range. Montana also improved to sink 13-of-17 attempts at the charity stripe in the second stanza.
SDSU outscored the visitors, 32-26, in the paint and tallied 16 second chance points compared to just two by the Grizzlies.Game Notes
