Recap: VA Commonwealth vs. Richmond

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Juvonte Reddic registered a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams captured an 81-70 win over the Richmond Spiders in an Atlantic 10 matchup at the Siegel Center.

Briante Weber and Melvin Johnson both tallied 14 points for the Rams (17-, 5-1 A-10), followed by Treveon Graham with 13 as the team posted a fifth straight win and the 10th in the last 11 contests overall. Also checking in with double figures in the balanced attack for the hosts were Jequan Lewis and Rob Brandenberg with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Spiders (14-7, 4-2) were paced by Kendall Anthony who erupted for 31 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor before fouling out, while Cedrick Lindsay accounted for 21 points as he connected on 7-of-12 from the field. Unfortunately, Richmond had only one other player who made more than just a pair of field goals as it suffered a second straight setback.

Both teams had some trouble finding the basket in the first half, with the visitors hitting a total of nine field goals for 32.1 percent accuracy and the Rams converting 38.2 percent in order to grab a 34-22 advantage at the break.

The squads turned it around in the second half as Richmond connected on 60 percent, but at the same time VCU was 57.7 percent accurate from the field and 15-of-19 at the free-throw line, en route to the double-digit win.

VCU was given a huge lift off the bench as the reserves posted 33 points, compared to just 10 for the Richmond backups.

For VCU, which has now won 16 straight home games, Weber finished with five steals on the day which means he now owns the school's all-time record for thefts with 260 in just 94 games. The record had been held by Rolando Lamb for close to three decades as he tallied 257 steals in 120 games.
