Recap: Tennessee St vs. SIU Edwardsville
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrick Miller netted 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as his Tennessee State Tigers edged out the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 66-61, in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup at the Gentry Center.
M.J. Rhett tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Tennessee State (4-24, 3-11 OVC), and Chaed Wellian added 12 points in the win. The victory snaps a three-game losing streak for the Tigers.
Kris Davis scored 14 points to pace SIU Edwardsville (11-17, 7-7). Keaton Jackson chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss, which was the second in three games for the Cougars.
Tennessee State connected on 46.4 percent of its shot attempts in the first half, and hit 4-of-10 from 3-point range, but still trailed at the half, 33-30. SIUE hit 39.3 percent from the floor, and made 8-of-9 from the free- throw line.
The Tigers hit 41.9 percent of their tries in the second half, including 4-of-12 from deep and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. The Cougars hit 44.4 percent from the field, but missed all six of their 3-point attempts, allowing Tennessee State to grab the lead and hang on for the win.
Tennessee State outscored SIUE from 3-point range, 24-9, and held the edge in second chance points, 10-6. The Cougars had the advantage in bench points, 21-8.Game Notes
