Recap: Central Mich vs. Jacksonville St

Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Fowler poured in 21 points to pace the Chippewas as Central Michigan downed the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 66-61, in a non-conference tilt at McGuirk Arena.

Braylon Rayson chipped in 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench for CMU (5-3). John Simons added 10 points while Blake Hibbitts posted eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

Darion Rackley and Rico Sanders scored 10 points each for JSU (3-6). Brian Williams went just 1-of-8 from the field to net two points, but handed out a game-high five assists for the Gamecocks.

The Chippewas connected on 52 percent of their field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes of action en route to a 29-25 halftime lead. JSU was limited to 41.7 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

The Gamecocks improved to convert 50 percent of their shots from the field in the second period. CMU managed to stay in front for the entire second half as it went 13-of-18 from the floor and sank 7-of-9 shots at the charity stripe.

The Chippewas held a 26-19 edge in the rebounding battle and knocked down half of their 12 attempts from beyond the arc in the contest. JSU finished 9-of-26 on attempts from behind the 3-point line.
