Recap: Eastern Mich vs. Akron

Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Kretzer led the way with 25 points on 7-of-12 from 3-point range, as the Akron Zips took down the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 78-68, in Mid-American Conference action at the Convocation Center.

For the Zips (12-6, 4-1 MAC), Demetrius Treadwell added a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Quincy Diggs finished with 14 points and five assists.

Karrington Ward led the Eagles (11-7, 3-2) with 20 points. Darell Combs chipped in with 12 points for the hosts, while Mike Talley scored 10.

Akron opened the game on a 20-3 run and led comfortably at the break, 39-19. The Zips shot 51.9 percent from the field in the half, including a strong 8-of-12 from beyond the arc. They held EMU to just 21.2 percent shooting from the field, as the Eagles missed all five of their 3-point tries in the period.

After the break, EMU improved its shooting to 48.7 percent but still struggled from deep, making 5-of-16 from 3-point range. Akron cooled off in the second, shooting 41.9 percent, including 2-of-7 from 3-point range. The Eagles got as close as seven in the second but never threatened the lead, as the Zips cruised to victory.

The Zips did a large chunk of their damage from the perimeter, outscoring the Eagles 30-15 from the 3-point arc.
