Recap: Duquesne vs. George Mason

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sherrod Wright netted 23 points and the Patriots notched their first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference victory as George Mason downed the Duquesne Dukes, 74-68, at the Palumbo Center.

Bryon Allen added 17 points for the Patriots (8-15, 1-8 A-10) as they snapped nine-game losing streak. Jalen Jenkins posted 10 points and six rebounds.

Duquesne (10-12, 2-7) suffered its third consecutive losing decision despite a strong showing from Ovie Soko, who finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Micah Mason tallied 16 points, six boards and four assists while Derrick Colter contributed 11 points to go along with four helpers.

GMU took a 32-31 lead into the intermission after outscoring the Dukes, 12-8, in the paint in the opening 20 minutes of the tilt. Duquesne shot 40 percent from the floor and trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before narrow the deficit to a single point in the closing seconds of the period.

The Patriots pulled away in the second half as they knocked down 61.9 percent of their field goal attempts and converted 15-of-23 shots at the charity stripe. Duquesne missed half of its 12 free-throw attempts after the break.

GMU enjoyed a 36-30 edge in the rebounding battle. Although both sides finished the contest with 13 miscues, the Patriots outscored the hosts, 15-8, in points off turnovers.
