Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Melvin Johnson III scored 22 points as the Arkansas State Red Wolves captured a 72-58 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a Sun Belt Conference clash at the Convocation Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Red Wolves (13-8, 6-4 Sun Belt), as they won for the third time in the last four outings, was Cameron Golden with 11 points off the bench.

Chris Harrison-Docks was responsible for 14 points for WKU (16-8, 8-3), followed by Trency Jackson and Aaron Adeoye with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the team had a six-game win streak snapped.

Both teams struggled to find the basket in the first half as Western Kentucky knocked down only 6-of-26 from the floor, compared to 8-of-28 for an ASU squad that grabbed a 25-20 lead at the break. The Red Wolves made just 2-of-9 behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action, but attempted to compensate with 7-of-9 at the free-throw line.

In the second half the hosts jumped to 55.0 percent accuracy from the field and an impressive 22-of-26 at the charity stripe in order to run away with the double-digit win.

In addition to being outscored at the free-throw line, 29-17, the Hilltoppers also suffered with 17 turnovers on the night.
