Recap: Southern Miss vs. FIU

Hattiesburg, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Bingaya scored 20 points to lead the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to a 78-66 victory over the FIU Panthers in a Conference USA tilt at Reed Green Coliseum.

Daveon Boardingham added 14 points for Southern Miss (24-5, 11-3 C-USA), which has won three straight. Jerrold Brooks tacked on 11 points and Jeremiah Eason dropped in 10.

Marco Porcher Jimenez netted 17 points for FIU (13-16, 5-9), which has lost four straight. Tymell Murphy logged 13 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks for the Panthers, who received 13 points from Cody Mann as well.

In the first half the Golden Eagles limited the Panthers to only nine field goals, while shooting 46.4 percent from the floor themselves. Southern Miss led, 35-23, at halftime.

FIU improved to 65.2 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, but the Golden Eagles held on by hitting 45.2 percent from the floor and 14-of-20 at the free-throw line.

The Golden Eagles had scoring advantages in the paint (46-26) and at the charity stripe (20-9). FIU was the better team from 3-point range (27-12).
