Recap: FIU vs. Old Dominion
Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 17 points from Keenan Palmore, the Old Dominion Monarchs downed the FIU Golden Panthers, 52-36, in a Conference USA tilt at U.S. Century Bank Arena.
For the Monarchs (8-9, 2-0 C-USA), Dimitri Batten added 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Tymell Murphy led the Golden Panthers (9-9, 1-2) with 20 points.
ODU opened the game on a 14-4 run and took a 29-14 lead into the break. The Monarchs shot just 35.5 percent from the field and 1-of-6 from 3-point range in the half but held FIU to just 29.4 percent shooting and 1-of-7 efficiency from beyond the arc.
After intermission, the Golden Panthers' shooting woes continued, as they shot 32 percent from the field, including 2-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Monarchs hit on 40 percent from the field in the half and 2-of-6 from deep. ODU pushed its lead to as many as 19 points in the half as the Monarchs cruised to victory and stayed perfect in conference play.
ODU had the edge in the frontcourt, outscoring FIU in the paint, 28-16 and outrebounding the hosts, 37-28. The 36 points scored by the Golden Panthers is the fewest scored in a game in program history, beating their previous low of 38.Game Notes
