Recap: Louisiana Tech vs. FIU

Ruston, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaron Johnson came off the bench to score 18 points and grab 11 rebounds, as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs easily defeated the FIU Panthers, 85-51, in Conference USA action at Thomas Assembly Center.

Alex Hamilton contributed 16 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (14-3, 2-0 C-USA). Kenyon McNeail netted 12 and pulled down six rebounds, while Michale Kyser and Chris Anderson each added 11 points. Kyser grabbed 11 rebounds for the double-double, and Anderson added six boards. Louisiana Tech extended its winning streak to six games.

Tymell Murphy scored a team-high 13 points and secured nine rebounds for the overmatched Panthers (9-8, 1-1). Dennis Mavin contributed 12 points and three steals in the loss. FIU has lost four of its last five games.

Louisiana Tech didn't dominate shooting in the first half, hitting just 37.8 percent from the floor and 10-of-19 from the free-throw line. FIU wasn't far behind at 37 percent shooting, though the Bulldogs took a 42-24 lead into the half.

Louisiana Tech improved its percentage to 46.7 in the second half, but only hit 3-of-11 from 3-point range. FIU's shooting dropped to 33.3 percent in the second 20 minutes, as the Panthers couldn't find a rhythm from distance, going just 1-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Louisiana Tech dominated the glass, outrebounding the Panthers, 51-34, and outscoring them in the paint, 42-26. The Bulldogs won on second-chance points, 20-4, and forced 18 FIU turnovers.
