Recap: Arkansas State vs. Toledo

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Drummond scored 19 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Toledo Rockets shot down the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 78-65, in a non-conference battle at the Convocation Center.

Drummond shot an impressive 8-of-11 from the floor and cleared six rebounds for the Rockets (10-0), who are off to their best start in 15 years. Nathan Boothe produced 14 points, Rian Pearson 11 and J.D. Weatherspoon 10 points and seven rebounds for the visitors.

The Red Wolves (5-4), losers of two straight, were paced by Kirk Van Slyke who tallied a game-high 22 points, followed by Cameron Golden and Kendrick Washington with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Golden, who knocked down 3- of-7 shots behind the 3-point line, also handed out seven assists without suffering a single turnover.

Both teams shot better than 51 percent from the field in the first half, and while ASU was able to move out to a six-point advantage midway through the period, it had to settle for a 44-40 edge at the break. The Red Wolves converted an impressive 7-of-14 beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of action.

After shooting the ball from the perimeter in the opening half, the hosts dropped to only 2-of-10 following intermission, opening the door for Toledo to surge ahead and capture the 13-point road win.

In addition to outscoring ASU in the paint, 46-24, the Rockets also held a decisive 19-4 scoring advantage at the charity stripe.
