Hawaii shot just 27.3 percent from the floor in the first half, but went 13- of-15 from the free-throw line which enabled the Warriors to snag a slim 26-25 halftime lead. UC Irvine hit 38.5 percent of its field goal tries, but connected on just 1-of-6 from the charity stripe.

The Anteaters improved to 40.7 percent shooting in the second half, while the Rainbow Warriors upped their accuracy to 37 percent. One free throw from Ndiaye with 2:38 left to play in regulation knotted the game at 51 apiece, and the scoring ceased from that point on until the extra period. Nelson missed a 3-point jumper at the buzzer that would have given the Anteaters the win.

In the extra time, the Anteaters managed to jump ahead and grab a 9-5 advantage over Hawaii for the four-point win. UC Irvine's six-point lead with 14 seconds to play in the overtime period was the team's largest lead in the contest.

The Anteaters held the advantage in 3-point scoring, 18-12, and in points in the paint, 26-20. Hawaii outscored UC Irvine from the free-throw line, 20-10, and had a 10-5 edge in points off turnovers.
