Recap: San Jose St vs. James Madison

DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Bessick scored 19 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the James Madison Dukes posted a 79-66 win over the San Jose State Spartans as part of the NIU Invitational at the Convocation Center.

Charles Cooke and Tom Vodanovich both tallied 15 points for the Dukes (2-2), followed by Ron Curry with 11, although the latter shot just 2-of-8 from the floor on the afternoon.

The Spartans (0-4) were led by Rashad Muhammad with a 18 points, but he converted only 5-of-16 shots from the field, including 2-of-10 behind the 3- point line as the team remained winless. Dylan Alexander pitched in with 12 points off the bench as well.

San Jose State dug itself a huge hole in the first half as it knocked down just 7-of-27 (.259) from the floor, but the deficit could have been even greater than 41-28 at the break were it not for the team's five conversions out on the perimeter.

James Madison, which connected on 51.9 percent from the field in the opening period, dropped down to only 36.4 percent after intermission, but still the team played well enough to lead from start to finish.

The SJSU starting five combined to shoot only 8-of-26 from the field and finished with a collective 27 points.
