Recap: Nevada vs. Nebraska Omaha

Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - C.J. Carter dropped in 13 points, including the game-winning layup in the waning moments, as the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks claimed a thrilling 82-80 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack in a non- conference battle at the Lawlor Events Center.

For the Mavericks (8-3), John Karhoff led the way with 25 points, while Devin Patterson added 18 and eight assists, Alex Phillips scored 12, and Mike Rostampour chipped in 11 points in the victory. Matt Hagerbaummer didn't attempt a single shot, but made an impact with a game-high 10 rebounds off the bench.

Jerry Evans Jr. led the Wolf Pack (4-7) with 24 points, Deonte Burton finished with 22 points and eight assists and Michael Perez scored 17. With his performance Burton, who also handed out eight assists and made three steals, eclipsed the 1,700-point mark for his career.

Omaha connected on 46.9 percent of its field goal tries in the first half, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range. Nevada shot 48 percent from the floor and hit on 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, as the teams entered halftime knotted at 41-41.

After the break the Mavericks heated up, knocking down 54.2 percent of their field goal tries, including 5-of-11 from 3-point distance. The Pack shot 42.3 percent, making 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The teams traded leads for almost the entire half, but the Mavericks were able to push out to a nine- point lead at 74-65 with 6:27 remaining.

The Pack responded with an 11-0 run to go back ahead with less than three minutes to play. After some more lead exchanges, Burton put the Pack up two with 56 seconds left in regulation. Karhoff hit a jumper just 16 seconds later to tie the game, and Burton's jumper with 10 seconds left was off the mark, setting up Carter's game-winning shot in the final moments.

With the road victory the Mavericks have now won five straight contests. Omaha survived a meeting that experienced 13 ties and 11 lead changes.
