Recap: Southern Ill vs. Northern Iowa

Carbondale, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Desmar Jackson sank a jumper with seven seconds remaining to propel the Southern Illinois Salukis to a 68-66 victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers in a Missouri Valley Conference thriller at SIU Arena.

Jackson finished with 19 points and 11 assists for Southern Illinois (6-12, 2-3 MVC), which had lost four of its previous five. Sean O'Brien added 15 points and Anthony Beane chipped in 14.

Seth Tuttle scored a game-high 24 points and came a rebound shy of a double- double to pace Northern Iowa (9-8, 3-2), which had won three of its previous four. Matt Bohannon hit 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to account for 12 points.

It was Northern Iowa that led 36-25 at halftime. The Panthers shot an even 50 percent from the floor, while Southern Illinois managed just a 32.1 percent shooting effort.

The Salukis rallied in the second half by shooting 62.5 percent from the floor, while holding the Panthers to 37.9 percent. Trailing 64-52 with just under five minutes remaining, the Salukis closed the game on a 14-2 run, capped by Jackson's game-winning shot. The Panthers had two chances in the final seconds, but Jackson blocked Deon Mitchell's layup attempt and Chip Rank's jumper was off the mark.

Southern Illinois enjoyed a 36-26 advantage in rebounds. Northern Iowa had the edge in points in the paint (30-26).
