Recap: Illinois State vs. Northern Iowa

Normal, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby Hunter tallied 17 points for the Illinois State Redbirds as they topped the Northern Iowa Panthers, 76-65, in a Missouri Valley Conference tilt at Redbird Arena.

Daishon Knight netted 15 points for the Redbirds (13-10, 6-5 MVC), who have won back-to-back games. Zach Lofton and Jamaal Samuel logged 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Seth Tuttle recorded a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (11-12, 5-6), who have lost three of their last four. Matt Bohannon notched a game-high 19 points. Deon Mitchell and Jeremy Morgan scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Panthers started strong, shooting 59.1 percent from the field in the opening half, while their opponent struggled at 35.7 percent. Thanks to a 6- of-9 shooting performance behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes of action, UNI led at the half by a 34-31 margin.

In the second half, however, the Redbirds got going, making 51.9 percent from the floor and 14-of-15 at the free-throw line. At the other end, the Panthers made just 34.6 percent from the field, surrendering the lead for good on a Hunter layup just over six minutes into the period. The hosts led by as many as 13 points late in the contest.

Illinois State outscored the visitors 30-19 in points off turnovers and 26-6 in bench points.
