Recap: Drake vs. New Mexico St

Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sim Bhullar recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds as the New Mexico State Aggies survived in overtime against the Drake Bulldogs, 81-69, in non-conference action at the Knapp Center.

Also posting a double-double for the Aggies (8-5) was Tshilidzi Nephawe with 10 points and 10 boards as the team snapped a four-game slide. KC Ross-Miller and Kevin Aronis checked in with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs (6-3) were led by Richard Carter with 21 points, but he shot just 6-of-20 from the floor and missed all five chances behind the 3-point line. Off the bench Jordan Daniels pitched in with 18 points and Jacob Enevold 13 rebounds, while Chris Caird responded with 13 points.

New Mexico State appeared to be well on the way to a victory when it opened the meeting on a 9-0 run, leading 16-3 shortly thereafter, before posting a 39-25 advantage at the break. The Aggies took advantage of their size as they outscored the hosts in the paint, 22-10, through the first 20 minutes of action.

After connecting on 16 field goals in the first period, NMSU made just half as many following the intermission, allowing Drake to fight back and knot the score at 67-67 when Daniels made three consecutive free throws in the waning moments.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the bonus period started off much like the first half as NMSU built a double-digit lead and pulled away from the comfortable victory.

Drake outscored the Aggies at the free-throw line, 24-16, but it wasn't enough to overcome a mere 3-of-15 showing beyond the arc.
