Recap: Yale vs. Penn

New Haven, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Sears scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots as the Yale Bulldogs cruised past the Penn Quakers, 69-54, in an Ivy League showdown at John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Armani Cotton notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Yale (12-9, 6-1 Ivy), connecting on 10-of-15 from the foul line. Javier Duren chipped in 11 points in the win, which was the fifth in a row for the Bulldogs.

Tony Hicks tallied 19 points to pace the Quakers (6-14, 3-3), who ended a two- game winning streak with the loss. Darien Nelson-Henry added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Fran Dougherty contributed 10 points.

Yale shot a dismal 31 percent from the floor in the first half, and hit 2-of-9 from 3-point distance, but still took a 25-22 lead into the break. Penn connected on 41.7 percent from the field, but went 0-of-6 from deep.

The Bulldogs slightly improved in the second half, netting 39.1 percent of their shot tries, and dominated from the free-throw line, hitting 25-of-35 in the second period alone. The Quakers hit 37.5 percent of their field goal tries in the half, and went 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Yale had the advantage from the free-throw line, 30-14, and outrebounded Penn, 41-30. The Quakers turned the ball over 20 times in the contest that led directly to 20 points for Yale.
