Recap: UCF vs. Temple
Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Isaiah Sykes registered a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds as the UCF Knights held off the Temple Owls for a 78-76 decision in an American Athletic Conference battle at CFE Arena.
Sykes also handed out six assists for UCF (9-4, 1-1 AAC), which also received 18 points and 10 boards from Eugene McCrory. Kasey Wilson scored 18 points and Tristan Spurlock made an impact on the defensive end of the floor with three blocks and two steals for the Knights.
Will Cummings led Temple (5-7, 0-2) with 31 points. Quenton DeCosey chipped in 14 points and Anthony Lee had 12.
The Knights took a 40-38 lead into the intermission after they connected on 50 percent of their field goal tries in the opening period. Temple trailed at the break despite hitting on 4-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Owls shot 50 percent from the floor and attempted five more field goals in the second stanza. UCF managed to hang on for the decision as it sank 11-of-18 shots at the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
The Knights dominated on the interior to outscore Temple, 48-42, in the paint and earn a 41-27 edge in total rebounds.Game Notes
