Recap: Providence vs. Georgetown

Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Kadeem Batts finished with 21 points to lead the Providence Friars to a 70-52 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas in a Big East Conference matchup at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

For the Friars (11-5, 1-2 Big East), Bryce Cotton added 20 points and dished out seven assists, while Josh Fortune just missed a double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists. LaDontae Henton chipped in 10 points.

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led the Hoyas (10-4, 2-1) with 19 points, while Mikael Hopkins finished with 12. The Hoyas were without one of their top three scorers for the game, as center Joshua Smith did not make the trip due to an academic issue.

Providence shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the first half, missing all but one of its nine 3-point tries. Georgetown converted just 37 percent of its field goal tries, including 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Friars did outscore the Hoyas 9-1 at the free-throw line and went into halftime leading 28-23.

After the break, the Friars found their range and connected on 59.1 percent of their field goal attempts, including 6-of-11 from 3-point distance. The Hoyas improved somewhat, shooting 42.9 percent from the field. Providence used a 14-0 run early in the period to take control of the contest, as Georgetown got no closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Providence forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. The Friars also outscored the Hoyas in the paint, 30-24.
