Recap: Georgetown vs. St Johns

Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera knocked down 6- of-7 3-pointers en route to a game-high 31 points, as the Georgetown Hoyas cruised to a 77-60 win over the St. John's Red Storm in Big East Conference play from the Verizon Center.

Markel Starks chipped in with 12 points as the Hoyas (10-3, 2-0 Big East) improved to 8-0 at home leading into Wednesday's matchup at Providence, which begins a three-game road trip.

Max Hooper had 13 points off the bench and Sir'Dominic Pointer scored 11 for the Red Storm (9-5, 0-2), who suffered their sixth straight loss in the head- to-head series.

The Hoyas jumped all over St. John's right from the tip, as they raced out to a 26-8 lead and eventually took a 42-16 cushion into the break. Smith-Rivera outscored the Red Storm on his own with 20 first-half points.

After making only 6-of-28 field goals (.214) in the first half, St. John's made a game of it by shooting 56.7 percent (17-of-30) in the second stanza. However, the damage had already been done, and the Hoyas maintained a comfortable margin by sinking 16 free throws over the final 20 minutes.

Georgetown's offense was simply too tough for St. John's to keep pace, as the Hoyas shot 56.1 percent from the floor and made 9-of-13 threes for the game.
