Recap: Houston vs. Texas State

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Danuel House scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help give the Houston Cougars to a 76-70 win over the Texas State Bobcats in non-conference action at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars (1-0) were TaShawn Thomas with 22 on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, followed by L.J. Rose with 11 points, to go along with six assists.

The Bobcats (0-1) were paced by Emani Grant and his 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting, followed by Joel Wright who dropped in 18 points and cleared eight boards, but at the same time turned the ball over six times. Phil Hawkins chipped in 10 points.

A pair of free throws by Wes Davis at the 8:31 mark of the first quarter put the Bobcats up by four points, 26-22, but a 16-2 run by Houston gave the hosts control and an eventual 46-41 advantage at the break.

After shooting 51.9 percent from the floor in the first half, Houston made good on 52.2 percent over the final 20 minutes into order to take the win.

In a game that featured seven ties and five lead changes, the difference in the contest took place at the free-throw line where the Cougars held an 18-12 edge.
