Recap: Purdue vs. Eastern Ill
West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryson Scott scored 14 points in just 15 minutes off the bench as the Purdue Boilermakers registered an 83-55 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers at Mackey Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for Purdue (4-0) were Kendall Stephens with 11 points and Basil Smotherman and Ronnie Johnson with 10 points apiece. Johnson also accounted for half of the team's 16 assists on the night.
The Panthers (2-2) were paced by Reggie Smith, the only double-digit scorer with 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor. Sherman Blanford pitched in with nine points and eight rebounds, but he also turned the ball over seven times.
The Boilermakers scored the first points of the night and never looked back, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half in order to take a 38-24 advantage at the break. Purdue was out in front despite missing all nine shots behind the 3-point line.
In the second half the lead for Purdue ballooned to 31 points, thanks in large part to a defensive effort that limited the visitors to just 10 field goals in the final 20 minutes of action.
In addition to limiting EIU to only 3-of-17 shooting beyond the arc, the Boilermakers also forced 19 turnovers which they traded in for 31 points.
Purdue has now scored at least 75 points in six straight games dating back to last season, the longest streak for the squad since turning the trick eight times in a row during the 1997-98 campaign.Game Notes
