Recap: Northwestern vs. IUPUI

Evanston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - JerShonn Cobb drilled a game-winning jumper with only two seconds remaining as the Northwestern Wildcats rallied back to defeat the IUPUI Jaguars, 63-61, in a non- conference clash at Welsh-Ryan Arena as part of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Cobb finished with only eight points for Northwestern (3-2) which overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to avoid falling below the .500 mark. Drew Crawford registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dave Sobolewski went just 2-of-11 from the field to contribute 10 points.

Ian Chiles paced IUPUI (1-4) with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and also grabbed a team-best seven boards. Mitch Patton chipped in 18 points while Donovan Gibbs and Khufu Najee scored 11 points apiece.

The Jaguars came out of the gate strong and Chiles put them ahead, 21-10, with 11:34 remaining in the first period with a make from the free-throw line. Northwestern outscored IUPUI, 18-16, in the paint in the opening 20 minutes to narrow the deficit and went into the intermission trailing, 31-28.

IUPUI began the second stanza strong as well. Chiles converted a three-point play to give the visitors a 49-38 edge with 10:18 remaining in regulation. The Wildcats responded with a 21-6 run to take a four-point lead with only 2:29 left to play. Patton sank a pair of free-throw attempts with 20 seconds to tie the score at 61 before Cobb iced the game with a jumper in the closing seconds. Northwestern scored 14 points off of turnovers and 11 second chance points in the second half while IUPUI failed to register a single point in either category.

The Wildcats held a slight, 33-29, edge in the rebounding battle to overcome IUPUI's 51.4 percent shooting from the field in the contest.
