Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway poured in a career-high 35 points, as the Nebraska Cornhuskers held off the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 82-78, in Big Ten Conference action at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Petteway shot 10-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and drained 11-of-14 foul shots for Nebraska (10-9, 2-5 Big Ten), which has won two of three. Walter Pitchford and Shavon Shields chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Malik Smith matched a career best with 29 points for Minnesota (15-6, 4-4) while tying a school record with eight 3-pointers. DeAndre Mathieu added 13 points for the visitors but also committed nine turnovers.

Nebraska shot 46.4 percent from the field in the first half, slightly better than Minnesota's 45.8 percent, as it carried a 35-30 lead into intermission.

The Cornhuskers controlled most of the second half and held a 10-point lead with 1:30 left to play. The Gophers caught fire down the stretch, making their deficit just two with two seconds left on a Daquein McNeil layup, but Petteway made two free throws at the other end to seal the victory for Nebraska.

Nebraska finished 11-of-22 from 3-point range, while Minnesota was also strong from beyond the arc at 10-of-20.
