Recap: West Virginia vs. Kansas State

Morgantown, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Juwan Staten scored a game-high 35 points, shooting 18-of-21 at the free-throw line, as the West Virginia Mountaineers secured an 81-71 win over the Kansas State Wildcats in a Big 12 Conference battle at WVU Coliseum.

Staten also shot 8-of-13 from the floor and handed out five assists for the Mountaineers (13-9, 5-4 Big 12) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Also scoring in double figures were Terry Henderson with 13 points, Eron Harris 11 and Remi Dibo 10 points in the triumph.

The Wildcats (15-7, 5-4)), losers for three of the last four, were led by Marcus Foster with 23 points, while Thomas Gipson contributed 19 and eight rebounds on the day.

Both teams shot just under 43 percent from the field in the first half, but thanks to a 12-1 advantage at the free-throw line, WVU was able to move out to a 39-31 lead at the break.

Kansas State came out firing in the second half, hitting on an impressive 61.5 percent from the floor, but the team was just 1-of-5 beyond the arc and 7- of-15 at the charity stripe. Once more the Mountaineers feasted at the charity stripe as the made all but four of 21 tries.

More than anything else, it was a 29-8 scoring margin at the free-throw line that pushed WVU to the victory.
