Recap: Oklahoma vs. Kansas

Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Perry Ellis had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the 18th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks won their 23rd straight conference opener with a 90-83 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.

Wayne Selden, Jr. made five 3-pointers en route to 24 points for the Jayhawks (10-4, 1-0 Big 12), who have won or shared nine straight Big 12 regular-season titles. Naadir Tharpe added 17 points.

"I don't know if he needed it but we needed it. We need him to be more aggressive and looking to score and to be a threat," Kansas coach Bill Self said of Selden.

Cameron Clark ended with 32 points for the Sooners (12-3, 1-1), who have lost two of their last three games. Buddy Hield tallied 18 points and eight rebounds.

"It is very frustrating. We just have to go back to the drawing board," Clark said. "It all starts on defense. Defense wins games. We just have to come together as a group and figure out what it is we are not doing and get better at it."

The Jayhawks took control of the game with a 12-0 run that bridged the first and second halves. Conner Frankamp ignited the surge with a 3-pointer and Ellis capped it with two free throws, making it 55-44 for Kansas.

Trailing 74-62 midway through the second half, Oklahoma went on a 12-4 run. Clark tallied 10 points during the spurt, including two free throws with 6:25 left to make it a four-point contest.

Tharpe responded with a 3-pointer to give Kansas an 81-74 lead. It remained a two-possession game the rest of the way.

Kansas jumped out to a 20-11 lead, but Hield and Frank Booker made consecutive 3-pointers to get Oklahoma within three.

The Sooners stayed within striking distance and took the lead with 3:04 to go in the first half. Following a foul on Andrew Wiggins and a technical foul on Kansas, Hield and Clark each made two free throws to give Oklahoma a 43-39 edge.

Ellis came back with four free throws of his own to tie the game. Booker then went 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it 44-43 Oklahoma with 2:06 remaining.
