Recap: Notre Dame vs. Virginia

Notre Dame, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Brogdon netted 16 points as the Virginia Cavaliers coasted to a 68-53 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Atlantic Coast Conference play at Purcell Pavilion.

Brogdon grabbed seven rebounds, dished out six assists and recorded five steals to boost his stat line. Mike Tobey contributed 14 points for the Cavaliers (16-5, 7-1 ACC), who have won seven of their last eight contests.

Zach Auguste and Demetrius Jackson each scored 10 points to pace Notre Dame (11-10, 2-6). Auguste added seven rebounds and four steals in the losing effort. The Irish have lost six of their last seven games.

Virginia came out firing in the first half, netting 60 percent of its shot attempts in the frame, taking a 34-24 lead into the intermission. Notre Dame hit 52.6 percent of its shots in the first period.

The Cavaliers cooled off a bit in the second, connecting on 48.1 percent of their shots to the Irish's 35.7 percent from the field. Notre Dame hit 4-of-12 from 3-point distance in the second half, while the Cavs connected on 3-of-6 from distance.

Virginia forced 20 Notre Dame turnovers that resulted directly in 29 points. The Cavaliers won the points off turnovers battle, 29-7, and had the edge in points in the paint, 32-22.
