Recap: Providence vs. Boston College

Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryce Cotton scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Providence Friars over their former Big East Conference rival the Boston College Eagles, 82-78, in a thrilling overtime bout at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Cotton was 9-of-20 from the field while grabbing six rebounds and making good on 9-of-10 attempts from the free-throw line for the Friars (1-0). LaDontae Henton recorded an impressive double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Josh Fortune contributed 15 points of his own while shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

Boston College (0-1) was led by Oliver Hanlan, who scored 23 points but did so on just 6-of-15 from the floor. Ryan Anderson added 21 points and six rebounds, while Joe Rahon tallied 13 points and a game-high five assists.

The Eagles managed to carry a 31-27 edge into intermission after shooting an impressive 56.5 percent from the field in the first half.

The second half saw both squads get to the free-throw line frequently and with high efficiency. Providence was 15-of-16 from the charity stripe in the second half, while Boston College was 13-of-14. Overtime was needed after regulation ended in a 70-70 tie.

After shooting well over 50 percent from the floor in regulation, Boston College made just one of its five shots in overtime. The Friars went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line in the extra session and were able to outscore the Eagles 12-8 as they held on for the 82-78 victory.

The difference in the game came on the boards, where Providence earned a 36-20 advantage over the Eagles. The Friars managed to grab 11 offensive rebounds, which led to 16 second-chance points compared to zero second chance points for Boston College.
