Recap: Vanderbilt vs. Austin Peay

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Fuller came to life late, scoring all 10 of his points with under six and half minutes to play, helping Vanderbilt knock off Austin Peay in a low-scoring affair, 58-56, on Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

Damian Jones led the way with 12 points, while Rod Odom just missed a double- double with 11 points and nine rebounds for Vanderbilt (6-3), which won its second straight game and fourth in the last five outings.

The Governors (5-6) wasted a double-double from Chris Horton, who posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Will Triggs joined Horton in double-figure scoring with 11 points for Austin Peay, which dropped under .500 on the season with its third loss in the last four games.

Despite shooting an ugly .257 from the floor in the first half (9-of-35), Austin Peay actually led by two points at the half (22-20), as Vanderbilt knocked down just eight field goals in the first 20 minutes.

Both teams shot a bit better after the break, but it was Vanderbilt's 14-4 edge at the free-throw line that proved instrumental in the two-point win.

Both teams struggled with offensive efficiency, with Vanderbilt converting 37.3 percent from the floor overall, while Austin Peay managed a mere .343 effort. The Commodores held a 43-38 edge in rebounding and outscored the Governors 16-7 at the free-throw line. It marked Vanderbilt's 14th win in 15 all-time meetings with Austin Peay.
