Recap: East Carolina vs. Rider

Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Maurice Kemp delivered a huge double-double consisting of 20 points and a game-high 15 rebounds as the East Carolina Pirates registered a 75-54 win over the Rider Broncs in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at Minges Coliseum.

Also scoring 20 points for the Pirates (20-12) was Ty Armstrong who did his damage on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor for a team that now heads to the quarterfinals of this tournament with an opponent and date to be determined.

Leading the way for Rider (19-15) was Jonathon Thompson with 18 points, thanks in large part to 10-of-10 shooting at the free-throw line, while Anthony Myles chipped in 10 points, but shot just 3-of-13 from the floor along the way.

East Carolina scored the first points of the contest and never looked back, moving out to a double-digit advantage late in the first half before the Broncs closed the gap with a 7-0 run which made the score 35-29 at the break.

After shooting a mere 28.6 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of action, Rider dropped to 25.8 percent in the second half, handing the lopsided decision to ECU.

The Pirates shot only 4-of-19 from 3-point range in the meeting, but made up for that by limiting the visitors to 16 total field goals and forcing Rider into 18 turnovers.
