Recap: George Mason vs. Santa Clara

Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Sherrod Wright bounced back with a game-high 20 points as the George Mason Patriots took Game Two of the College Basketball Invitational championship series with a 73-66 win over the Santa Clara Broncos at the Recreation Athletic Complex.

Wright also had 10 rebounds after scoring just three points in Game One for George Mason (22-15). Byron Allen added 15 points and Erik Copes tallied 10 points and nine rebounds for the Patriots who forced a decisive Game Three on Friday night at the Patriot Center.

Kevin Foster netted 16 points to pace Santa Clara (26-11) which also got 13 from Marc Trasolini, 11 from Raymond Cowels III and 10 from Brandon Clark.

Allen scored 13 points in the first half as the Patriots shot 46.4 percent from the floor and held the Broncos to just nine field goals on 34.6 percent shooting. George Mason led 39-26 at halftime.

After the break the Patriots would connect on just seven field goals but thanks to a 19-of-29 effort from the free-throw line and 39.5 percent shooting from the Broncos, they were able to hold on.

The teams were even on points in the paint with each scoring 30. George Mason had 21 more attempts from the free-throw line in the contest.
