Recap: Maryland vs. Niagara

College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Nick Faust, Logan Aronhalt and Seth Allen all poured in 15 points as the second-seeded Maryland Terrapins dismissed the seventh-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles, 86-70, in first-round action of the National Invitation Tournament at the Comcast Center.

Nick Faust also hauled in 11 rebounds for Maryland (23-12), which will advance to the second round to face off against the winner of the Denver/Ohio University matchup. Dez Wells chipped in 12 points for the hosts, while Charles Mitchell netted 10 points.

For Niagara (19-14), Antoine Mason shot 12-of-13 from the foul line en route to 24 points, Ameen Tanksley recorded 18 points and seven rebounds, T.J. Cline scored 11 points off the bench and Juan'ya Green had 10 points.

The teams played to a 35-35 tie after one half. Maryland shot 46.7 percent from the floor compared to just 40 percent for Niagara, but the Purple Eagles stayed in the game by draining five 3-pointers and going 6-of-8 from the foul line.

The Terps pulled away in the second half, outshooting Niagara from the field, 58.6 percent to 31.4 percent.

Maryland overcame 17 turnovers by winning the rebounding battle, 42-32.
